Sox Lose Third Straight to Jays

The Red Sox were riding high with a 5 game win streak, but then they lost 3 straight to the Blue Jays and suddenly they are looking much more like sellers than buying at the trade deadline. The Red Sox had Rubby De La Rosa on the mound and while he has been spectacular at Fenway, he continued with his road struggles in yesterday’s getaway game. The Sox bats also had their struggles as they were almost no hit by the Jays Stroman.

The Jays got all over De La Rosa and they started it in the 1st inning.  De La Rosa gave up a single run in the 1st by way of a passed ball to catcher Christian Vazquez.  Sox 0-1.  The Jays grabbed two more runs in the 2nd when Goins hit an RBI ground rule double and then an RBI double to Cabrera.  Sox 0-3.  In the 3rd the Jays went to a 5-0 lead when Francisco hit a 2 run homerun.  De La Rosa was still on the mound in the 5th, but he would end up leaving it with the bases loaded and no outs.  De La Rosa probably had his worst outing of the 2014 season and just looked lost on the mound.  Burke Badenhop came on in relief and ended up giving up a 2 run RBI single to Francisco.  Sox 0-7.  He finished the inning without giving up any more runs, which was a miracle all in itself giving the situation he inherited.  Badenhop pitched a scoreless 6th before handing the ball over to Felix Doubront who also pitched a scoreless 7th.  The Jays scored their final run of the game in the 8th inning with Edward Mujica on the mound.  Mujica gave up an RBI double to Cabrera to have the Jays leading 8-0.

While the Jays were scoring at ease against the Red Sox pitching, the Sox bats weren’t doing much against the Jays.  Stroman had a no hitter going into the 7th inning when Shane Victorino finally put an end to it with a single to shallow center.  However that would be the only hit that the Sox would get and it would end up being erased by way of a double play.  The other bad news was that Ortiz grabbed at his back in his last check swing and the Sox are having him evaluated.  If Ortiz ends up riding the bench or DL’ed for any significant time, any possibility that the Sox had this season is probably going right down the drain.

Red Sox 0  Blue Jays 8  BOXSCORE

WP: Stroman (6-2)  LP: De La Rosa (3-3)
