The Sox took on the O's last night with Ryan Dempster on the mound in hopes of grabbing another win. The Sox weathered Dempster having a shaky, but okay start, a rain delay however they were unable to weather a blown save in the 9th.
Dempster gave up a run in the first behind an error in the outfield from Shane Victorino that allowed Machado to reach and then Markakis to get a groundout RBI. Sox 0-1. The Sox tied up the game in the bottom of the 2nd with a Salty RBI double. In the 3rd the Sox took the lead 3-1 with an Ellsbury RBI triple and a Victorino sac fly.
Dempster found trouble in the 4th when he gave up a leadoff HR to Markakis. Sox 3-2. The game got tied with a Wieters RBI single to score Adam Jones. Sox 3-3. There was constant rain during the game, but at this point it really picked up. After the bottom of the 5th they finally called for the tarp and we were in a rain delay.
The game picked up and Uehara was on the mound for the 6th. Uehara continued to impress with a 1-2-3 inning. The Sox took the lead 5-3 with back to back HRs from Nava and Salty. Tazawa pitched a scoreless 7th and Bailey pitched a scoreless 8th inning. Hanrahan took the mound in the 9th and to say he found trouble would be an understatement. Like Monday night, Hanrahan started by giving up a leadoff HR. Sox 5-4. Hanrahan got 2 outs, but just couldn't get the 3rd out. I was at the game, but it was reported that Hanrahan was getting squeezed big time on the strike zone. Hanrahan ended up loading the bases and then the O's scored the tying run on a wild pitch. Bad went to worse when Machado hit a HR to put the O's up 8-5. Hanrahan was done for the night and Miller came into the game and got the much needed 3rd out. The Sox batters weren't able to rally in the bottom of the 9th and suffered their first blown save loss.
The water was definitely clean last night.
