The Red Sox took the field on a cold and dreary night in hopes of finding their 2nd win in a row against the Indians. Lackey was on the mound for the Sox vs. old friend and former Sox Justin Masterson. Masterson totally dominated the Sox offense the last time they met, but this time he would struggle and not make it out of the 3rd inning. Lackey had a hiccup early on, but hunkered down and pitched himself a mighty fine outing. The story of last night was a much needed explosion from the Sox offense.
The Indians were able to jump on top first when they got 2 quick runs off Lackey in the 2nd inning. Santana hit a 2 run HR off of Lackey to right field. Sox 0-2. The Sox was able to not only tie the game, but go ahead in the bottom of the inning. Pierzynski hit a 2 run RBI double and then Bradley hit an RBI triple. Sox 3-2. The Indians were able to get a little rally going of their own to tie up the game in the 3rd when Brantley hit an RBI double. Sox 3-3.
Masterson walked the first two batters he faced in the 3rd and was done for the night. Those walks would end up biting the Indians when Napoli hit a 2 run RBI double to put the Sox up 5-3. Lackey really hunkered in at this point and there was no looking back for the Sox. Lackey pitched into the 7th inning, but when he gave up a double to Cabrera he was done for the night. Miller came in and got the out to finish the inning. Lackey’s pitching line for the night was 110 pitches, 6.2 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 1 BB and 5 Ks.
In the 7th the Sox offense went to work again. Pedroia hit a 2 run RBI double to score JBJ and Holt. Napoli then hit a single and Pedroia was able to score on an Indians fielding error. The final run of the inning was scored when Nava hit an RBI double to score Ortiz. It’s been nice to see Nava’s bat come alive some in the last week or so. Sox 9-3. Miller came back out for the 8th and had himself a nice 1-2-3 inning. The Sox added their 10th run of the game in the bottom of the 8th when Xander Bogaerts hit a no doubt HR to the Monster. Sox 10-3. Burke Badenhop came out for the 9th and struck out the side to end the game.
Red Sox 10 Indians 3 BOXSCORE
WP: Lackey (8-4) LP: Masterson (4-5)
