Sox offense keeps on clicking, beats Tigers!

The Red Sox took the field on Thursday afternoon to take on Max Scherzer and the Tigers with the big bad weather looming large.  Alfredo Aceves was taking the mound for the Sox and hoped to take his last good outing and roll with it.  The good news is that the Red Sox offense picked right up where it left off yesterday and got to Scherzer early.  The Sox scored 5 runs in the 2nd inning capped by a 3 run homerun by Jacoby Ellsbury.  Carl Crawford got 4 hits during the game including 2 triples and 3 RBIs.  Drew Sutton also had a nice start at SS with 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

Aceves pitched 6 strong innings and only allowed one run to score.  We couldn’t have asked for more for a guy who was supposed to be our long relief guy out of the bullpen.  The Yankees have to be kicking themselves for releasing him.  Aceves’ pitching line for the night was 6 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB and 6 Ks.  Matt Albers came out in relief in the 7th and had a nice 1-2-3 inning.  The final out in the 7th, Albers caught a line drive right back to the mound.  If the ball hadn’t landed in Albers’ glove, it probably would have burrowed a hole right through him.

The Sox scored 5 more runs in the top of the 8th inning to lead 14-1 before the tarp was pulled and the game went into a rain delay.  A little more than an hour later, the game was called and the Red Sox won!
