Sox Rally Back to Beat Royals

The Red Sox looked to Felix Doubront who was fresh off the DL to right the ship and bring the team a win.  Doubront pitched well until he watched a ball leave the yard and gave the lead to the Royals.  However, he gutted through and didn’t let it get to him.  Doubront left the mound giving the bats a chance.

Doubront didn’t look great, but he looked pretty decent after just coming off the DL.  He was cruising along until the 4th inning.  Doubront was given a small lead at that point.  The Sox scored their first run in the bottom of the 1st when Ciriaco hit a single, Pedey hit a double and then an RBI single from Cody Ross.  Sox 1-0.  In the 2nd inning the Sox scored another run when Gomez walked and then Aviles scored him with an RBI double.  Sox 2-0.  In the 4th is when trouble started for Doubront.  With 2 outs, Dubi gave up 2 singles and then an RBI single to Tony Abreu.  Sox 2-1.  Lorenzo Cain came to the plate and took the ball out of the yard.  It all happened so fast.  Sox 2-4.  Doubront collected himself and got the out he needed to get out of the inning. Doubront came back and had himself a nice 1-2-3 5th inning, but he was done for the night.  Doubront’s line for the night was 98 pitches, 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB and 7 Ks.  Sure it wasn’t amazing, but as his first outing back from the DL, I am not complaining.

The Sox bats got back to work after that.  In the 5th, Pedro Ciriaco hit a solo HR to have us within one run.  That was just Pedro’s 2nd HR of the season and it couldn’t come at a better time.  Sox 3-4.  The other news in the 5th was that Pedey was clearly safe on an infield hit, however he was called out by 1B ump Bellino.  Before Pedey even had a chance to complain, Bobby V came flying out of the dugout.  Bobby V got himself ejected and then “got his money’s worth” giving Bellino a piece of his mind.  In the 5th, James Loney got his first RBI in a Sox uniform and tied the game 4-4.

In the 6th, Pedro Beato made his Red Sox debut and took the mound.  Beato was the player sent to the Sox in the Kelly Shoppach trade.  Beato pitched scoreless 6th and 7th innings.  In the bottom of the 6th, the Sox took the lead with an RBI single from Jacoby Ellsbury.  Sox 5-4.  In the 7th, the Sox gave Beato some insurance runs when Podsednik reached on an error and Cody Ross scored.  Pedro Ciriaco continued his amazing season by hitting an infield RBI single to score Lavarnway.  Sox 7-4.

Beato came back out in the 8th and in hindsight he probably shouldn’t have.  Beato ended up loading the bases without getting an out.  Bobby V said prior to the game that because of heavy workload (and Aceves not being available) that he only had 4 relievers available to him today, so I imagine they were trying to get as much as they could from each and every reliever.  Beato was out of the game and Breslow was in.  Breslow got a K, but then gave up 2 runs before he could get out of the inning.  Breslow gave up an RBI sac fly to Hosmer and then an RBI single to Abreu.  Sox 7-6.  Luckily, Pedroia gave the Sox another insurance run in the bottom of the 8th when he hit a solo HR over the Monster.  Sox 8-6. Mark Melancon was in the game for the save.  Melancon gave up a single, but that was it and got his first save of the season.

The Red Sox battling in this game and came away with a win.  Dirty Water y’all!
