The Red Sox headed into the game last night against the O's with John Lackey on the mound. Lackey has suffered from little to no run support from the Sox offense. Lackey would once again not get much run support, but the bats were able to rally late and grab a win.
The Orioles grabbed the lead in the first inning when Chris Davis hit an RBI double to score Machado. Sox 0-1. The O's grabbed another run in the 3rd inning when Lackey gave up a solo HR to Manny Machado. Luckily Brian Roberts attempted to steal third moments before that HR and was thrown out because that saved run would become important later in the game. Sox 0-2. The Sox finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the 3rd when Victorino hit an RBI single to score Drew. Sox 1-2. The O's got that run back in the 6th inning when Lackey gave up a HR to Chris Davis. It doesn't seem like an O's game if Davis is mashing a ball out of the park. Sox 3-1.
The Sox bats were able to tie the game in the 7th when Dustin Pedroia hit an RBI single to score Drew and Ells. Sox 3-3. Lackey took the mound in the 8th inning and while he wasn't in line for a win, at least he was no longer in line for the loss. Lackey got one out in the inning and Farrell came out to get him. It was clear Lackey did not want to leave the game, but none the less Craig Breslow was in the game. Breslow got the 2 quick outs to get out of the inning. In the bottom of the inning the Sox offense had a little bit more magic and got the go ahead run. Salty hit a leadoff double, Drew was intentionally walked and the Mike Carp came up to pinch hit for Bogaerts. Carp hit a blooper that fell into left field and Salty got home to have the Sox leading 4-3. Koji Uehara was warmed up and ready for the top of the 9th. Koji had a quick 1-2-3 inning and grabbed his 14th save of the season.
