Sox Rally to Win Over Jays

The Red Sox have been doing a pretty good job the last couple days of cooling down the red hot Blue Jays.  The Sox had rookie starter Allen Webster on the mound and the Jays were sending Josh Johnson.  Webster held his own and even though he didn't get the win, he definitely did his job and left the team deserving the win.

Webster got himself a small lead in the 2nd when Stephen Drew hit a 2 RBI triple to score Napoli and Nava.  Sox 2-0.  The Sox added another run in the 3rd when the Jays intentionally walked Papi and then Napoli hit an RBI single to score Ellsbury.  Sox 3-0.  In the 4th the Sox chased Johnson from the game when Ellsbury hit a 2 RBI single.  Sox 5-0.  The bad news in that inning is that Stephen Drew left the game with an injury and Brandon Snyder came in for him.  Drew has been playing real well lately, so it would be a shame to lose him for any significant period of time.  In the 5th is the first time that Webster showed any real signs of trouble.  Webster gave an RBI singles to Bautista and Encarnacion and then a sac fly to Lind.  At the end of the inning the Sox were leading 5-3.  In the 6th Webster gave up one more run when Izturis hit a sac fly to score Davis.  Sox 5-4.  Webster left the game after 6 innings and his pitching line was 100 pitches, 6 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB and 3 Ks.  It wasn't a stellar outing, but it sure was good enough.

Andrew Bailey came out in the 7th and we were all collectively holding our breath.  I can't remember the last time Bailey didn't give up a homerun in one of his outing and tonight would be more of the same.  Bailey got 2 Ks to start the inning and it was looking promising, but then gave up a solo HR to Encarnacion to tie the game.  Sox 5-5. Bailey was out of the game and Andrew Miller was in to get the 3rd out.  Miller got a K to end the inning and we were on to the bottom of the 7th.  The Sox bats got back to work to put this game back in the win column.  The Sox had the bases loaded with one out and Jonny Gomes was at the plate.  Gomes hit an RBI single to give the Sox back the lead and then the Jays pitching walked Salty to give the Sox an insurance run.  Sox 7-5.  Andrew Miller pitched another scoreless inning in the 8th and then he handed the ball over to closer Koji Uehara in the 9th.  Uehara was going to the mound for the 3rd game in a row, but didn't show any signs of wear or tear.  Uehara had himself another 1-2-3 inning and notched his 3rd save of the week.
