Sox Rebound With Strong Win in Toronto

The Red Sox had just suffered their worst defeat of the season against the Yankees on Thursday night and were heading to Toronto hoping to right the course.  The Sox had Jake Peavy on the mound who was still looking for his first win of the season vs. Mark Buehrle.  The Sox looked like a different team with strong pitching and timely hitting to take the first game of the series.

The Sox bats jumped on Buehrle early in the 2nd inning and were off to the races.  AJ Pierzynski hit a sac fly to score Napoli and then Will Middlebrooks celebrated his first at bat back from the DL with an RBI single and the final two runs of the inning were scored when Pedey hit a 2 run RBI single.  Sox 4-0.  In the 3rd inning the Sox added another run when Papi hit a no doubter homerun to right.  Sox 5-0.  The Sox added a couple more runs in the 6th when Middlebrooks hit an RBI double before being thrown out trying to leg it to 3rd.  Buehrle was out of the game, but that didn’t stop the bleeding.  The Sox scored their final run of the inning when Napoli was walked with the bases loaded.  Sox 7-0.

As the Red Sox were scoring at will against the Blue Jays, Jake Peavy was throwing quite a nice start on his side.  Peavy didn’t allow the Blue Jays to get on the scoreboard until the 7th inning when he gave up a solo homerun to Francisco.  Sox 7-1.  Peavy finished out the 7th inning and was done for the night.  Peavy gave the Sox exactly what they needed.  His pitching line for the night was 113 pitches, 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 2 BB and 7 Ks.  Chris Capuano came out and pitched a scoreless 8th inning by striking out the side.  In the top of the 9th the Sox added on their 8th and final run of the game when Jackie Bradley Jr. hit an RBI double to score Pierzynski.  Sox 8-1.  Andrew Miller took the mound in the 9th and had a scoreless inning to secure the Sox win.

Red Sox 8  Blue Jays 1  BOXSCORE
