Sox Send Peavy to Giants for 2 AAA Pitchers

It seemed like a matter of when, not if when it came to Jake Peavy being traded from the Red Sox.  Peavy was a big piece of the Sox winning it all in 2013 when he was sent to the Sox at the trade deadline.  Of course he will always be remembered for buying one of the duck boats that took the team on the World Series Parade around Boston after winning it all in October.

There was a lot of talk right before the All Star Game that Peavy was on the verge of being traded to the Cards, but nothing ended up coming of that.  It was announced today that Peavy is in fact being traded, but to the Giants.  Peavy will join the Giants rotation and they will be sending 2 AAA pitchers to the Sox.  The Sox will be getting 25 year old righty Heath Hembree and 22 year old lefty Edwin Escobar.  Both pitchers were ranked within the top 10 of Giants prospects entering this year, however they have had their struggles in AAA in 2014.   Both pitchers will be placed on the 40 man roster and sent to AAA Pawtucket.

So long Jake Peavy.  He’ll always be a great memory from 2013, but the trade was a piece of the puzzle that had to happen.  Hopefully Peavy will be able to get some more wins under his belt than he was able to with the Sox this year.
