According to ESPN’s Buster Olney, the Red Sox are shopping David Wells around to contenders to see what they could get in return.
Olney lists these contenders who could be interested: Mets, Twins, Diamondbacks, Padres, Dodgers, Phillies, Cardinals, A’s and the Reds.
Personally, I think the Mets make all sorts of crazy sense – Wells loves New York, this is his final year, so the Red Sox would deal him to a sure pennant contender (unless one fighting for a spot offers up too good of a deal) and the Sox are good trading partners with the Mets.
If Wells is indeed dealt to the Mets, it will cement the Mets as my playoff team to root for over the Reds.
I’ll be watching this with great interest – Wells’ pedigree may earn us an above-average prospect.
