Sox Swept Again…This Time By the As!

The Sox took the mound in hopes of not being swept two series in a row.  Dice-K took the mound for the Sox and once again put the offense in a hole early.  He also held the trend of starting pitchers of not lasting very long in the game.  The Sox bats, especially without Papi and Gonzo now have not been able to make up for the runs the starting pitchers have allowed and last night would be the same.

Dice-K started the night giving up 2 runs in the 1st before recording an out.  Dice-K gave up a walk to Crisp and a HR to Smith.  Sox 0-2.  In the 2nd inning, Dice-K gave up a solo HR to Stephen Drew.  Sox 0-3.  In the 3rd, Dice-K continued giving up runs.  Dice gave up an RBI sac fly to Reddick and an RBI single to Stephen Drew.  Sox 0-5.  Ugh.  In the 4th, Dice-K had the bases loaded with one out.  Cespedes hit an RBI grounder to give the A’s their 6th run.  That was it for Dice-K and he was done before the 4th inning was.

Dice-K was out and Andrew Miller was in the game.  Miller got a K to end the inning.  The rest of the game would be on the bullpen and tonight the bullpen was able to get the job done.  It just ended up being too little too late.  Miller pitched a scoreless 5th inning with a strikeout and a walk.  In the 6th inning, the Sox got their first run of the game with the bases loaded and one out.  Cody Ross hit an RBI single to score Ciriaco.  Unfortunately, Cespedes has a much better arm than Podsednik thought and he was throw out trying to get home.  Sox 1-6.  Breslow pitched a scoreless 6th inning with 2 Ks.  Junichi Tazawa took the mount in the 7th and had himself a scoreless inning with 2 Ks as well.  Melancon took the mound in the 8th and pitched a scoreless inning.  The Sox scored their second and final run in the top of the 9th off of Grant Balfour.  Pedey hit a double, Ross ground out and moved Pedey to 3rd and then Gomez got him home on a sac fly.  Sox 2-6.  Unfortunately that is where their inning would end.

Sox lost AGAIN.  I’m still waiting for our first win on this west coast road trip.
