Sox Swept Away By Brewers in First Home Series

The Red Sox haven’t had the homecoming they had hoped for with the Brewers sweeping the series.  The Sox had problems both with pitching and scoring runs.  Yesterday it was ace Lester on the mound and once again he didn’t get any run support from the bats as he collected his 2nd loss of the season.

Lester gave up his first runs in the 2nd inning when he gave up an RBI single to Mark Reynolds and then a 2nd run scored with a fielding error from Nava in right.  Sox 0-2.  Lester settled right in after that and would keep the Brewers off the bases and of the scoreboard until the 7th inning.  Lester gave up his 3rd run of his outing when he gave up an RBI single to Bianchi to score Khris Davis.  Sox 0-3.  Lester took the mound again in the 8th inning, but after giving up a single and being over 100 pitches, John Farrell went out to get him.  Mujica came in to the inning and after Braun got to third on a throwing error from Ross, Mujica gave up an  RBI single to Ramirez to have the Brewers leading 4-0.  That inherited runner closed the book on Lester’s outing.  His pitching line for the night was 108 pitches, 7.1 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 1 BB and 6 Ks.

Andrew Miller came out and pitched a scoreless 9th, but the real story of the game was the lack of timely hitting in the game.  The Sox got 9 hits in the game last night, but weren’t able to turn any of them into runs.  The Sox fielding was also an issue with two errors on the night that both turned into runs.  It is a long season ahead, however the Sox sure have to be unhappy with how this series unfolded.

Red Sox 0  Brewers 4  BOXSCORE
