Sox Take Series from Jays

All the silly controversy in Toronto last night about the crapola they tried to throw in Clay Buchholz's direction didn't do anything to stop the Red Sox on the red hot roll they are on.  Ryan Dempster took the mound against his native country and got himself his 2nd win in a Sox uni.

Dempster didn't look great in the first few innings.  Dempster gave up a leadoff HR to Brett Lawrie to start the game.  Sox 0-1.  Luckily, the Sox bats gave Dempster the lead in the 2nd inning and he was able to hold onto it.  The Jays Happ was having major control issues and the Sox took advantage.  Carp hit an RBI single to tie the game and then Drew hit an RBI sac fly to give the Sox the lead 2-1.  Dempster continue to find himself in trouble situations, but he always seemed to find a way to wiggle out of it.  Demps didn't have a 1-2-3 inning until the 5th inning.  Dempster's pitching line for the night was 100 pitches, 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 3 BB and 4 Ks.

In the 6th, the Sox got an insurance run when Ellsbury hit an RBI single to score Ross.  Sox 3-1.  Miller took the mound for the 7th, but he didn't have his best outing.  Miller gave up a single, threw a wild pitch and then issued a walk.  With 2 outs, but the Jays looking like they wanted to rally, Farrell pulled Miller and put Tazawa in the game.  Tazawa issued a walk to load the bases, but then struck out Lind to end the inning.  Uehara pitched himself a scoreless inning before heading to the dugout for high fives!  In the 9th everyone was scratching their heads when Joel Hanrahan came into the game instead of Andrew Bailey.  We learned after the game that Bailey has a sore bicep, so he was unavailable to pitch.  This was Hanrahan's first save situation since coming back from the DL.  Hanrahan gave up a leadoff single, but then got the 3 outs we needed to get the save and the win.

Red Sox 3  Blue Jays 1  BOXSCORE

WP: Dempster (2-2)  LP:  Happ (2-2)  SV: Hanrahan (4)
