The Red Sox returned home with a much better record than they have the last two season. The took 2 out of 3 from both the Yankees and the Blue Jays. The Orioles were the next team on the list. Clay Buchholz was taking the mound for the Sox against Wei-Yin Chen from the O's. Buchholz had a pretty impressive outing against the Yankees for which he hoped to build upon.
Buchholz did that and then some. He found himself embattled in a pitchers duel with Chen. Buchholz just kept putting up zeroes on the board inning after inning. Clay ended up pitching 7 strong innings while allowing no runs to score. His ERA when he left the mound was 0.64. Wowza. Clay's pitching line was 113 pitches, 7 IP, 0 R, 4 BB and 8 Ks.
Unfortunately for Clay the score was tied 0-0 when he left the mound. Chen was putting up zeroes at the same time. Chen came out for the bottom of the 7th inning and that is when the Sox bats got to work. Pedey reached on an infield single and Napoli doubled to bring Pedey to third. Middlebrooks struck out, but then Daniel Nava came to the plate. Nava hit a towering HR over the Monster and the Sox led 3-0. Buchholz was now in line for the win.
Andrew Bailey came on for the 8th and had himself a nice 1-2-3 inning. Hanrahan came on for the first time as the closer at Fenway Park. Funny side note: they started to play Shipping Up to Boston for about 2 seconds and then I guess the sound people realized that Pap's been gone for a while…the music stopped and then once they found Hanrahan's music they played his entrance music. It was pretty comical. Hanrahan gave up a leadoff HR to Adam Jones to give the O's their first run. Sox 3-1. Hanrahan got the 3 outs we needed and snagged his first save at home.
Red Sox Win! Gotta love that Dirty Water at Home!
