Sox Win In Extras to Take Series

The Sox came into this game having won 2 out of 3 and needed to win this game to take the series from the Mariners.  The Sox had Ryan Dempster on the mound vs. Erasmo Ramirez for Seattle.  Dempster would struggle and not make it out of the 4th inning, but rookie Steven Wright would end up pitching 5+ innings and allow the Sox time to battle back and win the game in the 10th inning.

The Sox jumped out to a small lead in the first when Ellsbury hit a leadoff HR.  Sox 1-0.  Dempster wouldn't be able to hold the lead though since he struggled out of the gate.  Dempster should have had the 3rd out in the 2nd, but Holt had a throwing error to keep the inning going.  The Mariners would take advantage and take the lead 4-1 in the 2nd when Seager hit a HR, Miller hit an RBI double and Chavez hit an RBI single.  In the 3rd Dempster gave up another run with an RBI single to Saunders.  Sox 1-5.  The Sox started to battle back in the 4th when they scored 3 runs.  Brock Holt, Iglesias and Ellsbury all hit RBI singles to have the Sox within a run.  Unfortunately, Ryan Dempster would continue to struggle in the 4th.  Dempster gave up an RBI single to Miller and he was done for the day.  Dempster's pitching line was 91 pitches, 3.1 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 1 BB and 4 Ks.

Steven Wright who was just called up from Pawtucket took the mound for the Sox and would end up pitching 5+ innings.  Wright gave up an RBI single to Seager in the 4th inning, but that would be all he would give up.  Sox 4-7. In the 5th inning the Sox bats got to work and tied the game.  With the bases loaded, Carp hit an RBI sac fly then Holt and Iglesias both hit RBI singles.  Sox 7-7.  Wright kept the Mariners off the scoreboard and the knuckleball seemed to be working for him.  The Sox and Mariners were both still tied 7-7 and were headed to extra innings.  In the top of the 10th Daniel Nava hit an RBI single to center and Bradley came home to score.  Sox 8-7.  Uehara came out in the bottom of the 10th and had a 1-2-3 inning to grab the win and give Wright his first major league win.
