Sporting Kansas City currently leads the all time series at 3 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss. Philadelphia’s only win against Sporting came in a 4-0 thrashing last June in Philadelphia.
Michael Farfan and Claudio Bieler will be two players to keep an eye on. Farfan will be tested and be relied on as the arguable anchor of the Union midfield while Bieler is an unknown. Bieler hasn’t played much this preseason and even diehard fans are guessing as to whether or not Sporting’s new DP can play in MLS.
I predict a 1-1 draw. Ironically, the only time Philadelphia defeated Sporting was also the only time I saw Sporting play in PPL Park so if you’re superstitious, don’t be shocked if that happens again. If you’re not, you would think Sporting would be favored. I however think that referee Mark Geiger will play a role in the game and someone will be sent off as both teams gain a point.
