Sporting News Ranks UConn Women Number 1

The MLB Playoffs are coming up shortly, the NFL and NCAA college football seasons are underway, so that must mean one thing. College basketball is slowly creeping up on us.

UConn HuskiesActually, we’re about a month away from official practices beginning and two months away from games which leads to our story here.

In the first of what will probably be many, The Sporting News has chosen the UConn Huskies women’s basketball team as it’s number one team in the land for the 2010-11 season. Having the best player in the country, Maya Moore, and winning two straight NCAA Women’s Basketball Championships going undefeated doesn’t hurt them either.

The Huskies second opponent of the 2010-11 season, the Baylor Bears are ranked second in the poll while Stanford, Xavier, Tennessee, Duke, Ohio State, Notre Dame, West Virginia and Oklahoma round out the top 10.

The two-time Wade Award winner Moore highlights the Sporting News Preseason All-America First Team as well.
