Ryne Sandberg begins his second season managing the Philadelphia Phillies with little hopes of success heading into the season. After a disappointing 2013, the Phillies tried to “reload” rather than “rebuild” and misfired. After finishing the season with a 73-89 record, the team traded long time shortstop Jimmy Rollins, which made it clear that the Phillies are in a rebuilding process.

Hamels had another strong season, finishing sixth in the NL Cy Young voting with a 2.46 ERA while throwing over 200 innings.
