The Springfield Armor made a minor move in recent days as they claimed shooting Dominique Jones from the Dallas Mavericks after the USF-grad and Grizzlies draft pick was released by Dallas after refusing a D-League assignment. Picked 25th in the 2010 NBA Draft by Memphis, just one spot after Damion James was selected, Jones was a high-scorer at South Florida, averaging 21.4 points on 45 percent shooting in his last season in college (2009-10).
The move to pick him up by the Armor is a nice example of how the Nets can easily use their partnership with Springfield to their advantage. Jones is a solid replacement shooting guard if someone on the Nets, like Joe or MarShon were to get injured, who can come in right away and score points in the NBA.
He might not be the best defender around, or even a decent one at that, but his forte has always been on the offensive end of the floor and sometimes, the Nets go through scoring/shooting slumps that couldn't benefit from a pure scorer like Jones to play a few minutes, watch the ball go through the hoop a few times, and initiate movement and better shot attempts from his fellow teammates.
