Despite the San Antonio Spurs may have moved on to a new era with Kawhi Leonard, but Tony Parker is still a key member of the team. He made that clear in a pre Thanksgiving matchup with the Charlotte Hornets.
Parker scored the final six points for the Silver and Black as they earned a 119-114 win over the Hornets inside the Spectrum Center on Wednesday night for their seventh straight win.
Kawhi Leonard led the way for the Spurs with a game-high 30 points. LaMarcus Aldridge added 23 points and seven rebounds and Danny Green chipped in 16 for San Antonio, who improved to 8-0 on the road.
”It’s a weird year,” Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said. ”We’ve lost three in a row at home and last year we lost one the whole year. Now we’re undefeated on the road, so don’t ask me. That’s why they call it a game because you never know what’s going to happen.”
The game featured 34 ties and 16 lead chances, but Parker sealed it for San Antonio with a corner three-pointer.
The Hornets were led by Kemba Walker’s 26 points. Frank Kaminsky and Nic Batum each added 13 for Charlotte (8-6), who lost their third straight.
”They have a guy who is an MVP candidate (in Leonard), Pau Gasol and Tony Parker who are probably Hall-of-Famers, Aldridge, who is a perennial All-Star and Danny Green who has been a starter on two championship teams. Plus they have a guy who is maybe the best coach of our time – except for all that they’re just OK,” Charlotte coach Steve Clifford said.
Up next: The Spurs are now 12-3 on the season and will return to the court on Friday when they face Al Horford and the Boston Celtics at noon inside the TD Garden.
