One of the best basketball coaches will be joining the San Antonio Spurs’ coaching staff to learn from one of the best basketball coach in the NBA – Gregg Popovich.
According to Eurohoops, Greek coach Ilias Zouros has been invited to spend time with the Spurs (and Bulls) during the upcoming training camp to hone his coaching skills.
Bulls and Spurs have invited him and the (until recently) head coach of the Greek national team will travel to the other side of the ocean, in order to enrich his knowledge next to top coaches like Tom Thiobodeau and Greg Popovich. With the latter, he has a very good relationship and also with members of the front office of Spurs, since he followed San Antonio’s training camp also two years ago.
This isn’t the first time the Spurs have invited a foreign coach to join their ranks for a while. Ettore Messina (former assistant coach with the Lakers and now head coach of CSKA Moscow) spent time with the Spurs coaching staff.
Also, with Don Newman leaving the Spurs to join the Wizards’ coaching staff, who knows if Zouros will be offered the vacant spot on the bench.
