One down, three to go! But in order to secure the next game, we at Projectspurs will give you the keys to a Spurs victory for Game 2 of the NBA Finals.
Key 1 — Intensity for 4 quarters. In game one, the Spurs had built up a 16 point lead in the third quarter only to see the Cavs get back in the game and cut the lead down to 5 at one point in the 4th quarter. This needs to stop immediately. If the Spurs continue to do this, it gives the young Cavs hope they can compete with the Spurs.
Key 2 — Close out better on the 3-point shooters. We saw Marshall, Gibson, and James hit key 3-pointers in the game. Just as they did in the Suns series, closing out on Cavs outside shooting is a must.
Key 3 — More from Finley. Chalk it up to jitters from his first Finals game but Finley cannot go 1-6 shooting if he wants to get his first ever NBA Championship ring. More so for game 2 seeing how the Cavs will shut down the lane and dare the Spurs to hit their outside shots.
Key 4 — Parker outside shot. You know the Cavs are not going to let Parker slice his way to the basket like he did in game 1. If he starts to hit his outside shot, it will open the lane for him.
Key 5 — Beware Lebron. No way Lebron has back to back horrible games. Lebron is going to come out with all his guns blazing. If he gets even more aggresive attacking the basket, then Spurs interior defense must try to stay out of foul trouble, watch for the outlet pass and shooters when he throws out of double teams, and just like in game 1, it took Spurs TEAM defense, not Bowen alone, to limit Lebron’s effectiveness.
Key 6 — Understand they need 3 more wins. Keep to the game plan and know it’s just one win. Still need three more W’s.
