This time last year, training camps were in full swing around the league.
While training camps have been postponed due to the lockout, that’s not stopping a few San Antonio Spurs veterans from getting in the gym and bringing in a few rookies along with them.
Spurs guard Tony Parker flew into San Antonio this weekend and he’s back in the gym with Tim Duncan, Kawhi Leonard and Cory Joseph, according to a photo Parker linked on his Twitter account.
Aside from meeting the new guys and forming chemistry, I’m pretty sure Duncan and Parker want to try to get Leonard and Joseph acclimated with the team’s offensive and defensive schemes early on so it won’t be foreign once training camp does start.
Parker and Joseph have kept busy with Eurobasket and the FIBA Americas Tournament, while Leonard worked out in San Diego and participated in the Impact League and Jimmer’s All-Stars.
While Duncan, like the other Spurs players, hasn’t had access to “the hill” and the Spurs practice facility, I’m sure he’s kept in shape.
Back when Duncan was a rookie, he and Antonio Daniels would regularly play two-on-two pickup games with David Robinson and Tim Duncan. I’m sure there will be plenty of two-on-two games this week.
For Leonard and Joseph’s sake, let’s hope they switch teams every so often.
