Starting next season, the San Antonio Spurs will have a French flare to the roster as Nando De Colo will join fellow countrymen Tony Parker and Boris Diaw in black and silver.
De Colo will be among the plethora of guards currently on the roster and will be fighting to get some playing time with San Antonio but TP is happy to see Nando make the jump to the NBA and feels he is ready to play on basketball’s highest stage (via Basket News).
“He has matured, he had a very good season with Valencia,” Parker explained to our colleagues at L’Equipe recently. “With San Antonio, I think it is a good time for him to come to the NBA, so I’m happy for him. He makes the third Frenchman on San Antonio and I hope he will be playing.”
With De Colo playing on the French national team for the 2012 Olympics, Spurs fans will be able to get a closer look at what Nando will be bringing to the team next season. So far he has displayed an ability to pass on a dime, slash to the basket, and is a big guard at 6’5″. However, with many guards on the roster heading into next season, one has to wonder if he will see time on the court for the Spurs or be sent to the D-League for further development.
But keep this in mind, De Colo is versatile and can play both guard positions. So even if the point guard spot is stacked, he could find a spot by playing the shooting guard spot behind Manu Ginobili and Danny Green.
And should Nando get time with the Spurs, his learning curve would be short and he would fit in seamlessly playing with TP and Diaw considering they have developed chemistry with the French national team. Something that will not only make Parker happy, but also fans and coaching staff.
What do you think Spurs fans? Do you agree with TP and like the addition of Nando?
