Spurs sign Cory Joseph

It looks like San Antonio Spurs 2011 Draft pick Cory Joseph will finally join the team.

JosephAccording to the Spurs, they have inked their 29th overall pick now that he has cleared immigration issues and attained a work visa.

Joseph, who played his only college season with the University of Texas, seems to have the trust of the Spurs’ front office, and Spurs GM R.C. Buford raved about his defensive abilities and Spurs qualities after they selected him on draft night.

Being a rookie point guard is among the most daunting positions in the NBA, not to mention in coach Gregg Popovich’s rotation.

While tracking Joseph’s progress through the FIBA Americas tournament on Project Spurs over the summer, Joseph showed some poise leading a team of veterans throughout the tournament, however any minutes that may have been available at a vacant backup point guard spot may be harder to come by now that T.J. Ford was signed and he’s had the benefit of being in training camp all week not to mention his league experience.

Don’t be surprised to see Joseph in Austin with the Toros if he struggles due to his late addition to the team.

Joseph will likely make his Spurs debut wearing #5 tomorrow night in Houston.
