The San Antonio Spurs have announced the signing of guard Justin Dentmon to a 10-day contract, and the release of forward Eric Dawson.
Dentmon comes from the D-League affiliated Austin Toros where he was averaging 22.9 points, 5.3 assists, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.47 steals in 38 games this season. Dentmon shoots 46% from the field, 42% from three, and 87% from the free throw line.
Dentmon was a D-League All-Star in February, and was a scoring machine in the D-League as he scored in double figures in 37-of-38 games with the Toros.
Dentom was undrafted out of the University of Washington in 2010 and has only played professionally in the D-League.
The signing of Dentmon means the expected arrival of Australian point guard Patty Mills is still in delay. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich spoke on Mills’ situation yesterday before the Spurs’ victory over the Dallas Mavericks.
“He’s not here. He’s unavailable.” Popovich said of Mills, “I don’t know (when he’ll be here), it’s taken a long time already, now it’s the weekend, that’s not going to solve anything.”
