The rumor mill just keeps churning and the latest news relating to the San Antonio Spurs is that former Pacers (and Longhorn) point guard T.J. Ford may be coming back to South Central Texas. Alex Kennedy from Hoopsworld.com tweets that Ford is leaning towards signing with the Spurs.
“Unrestricted free agent T.J. Ford is leaning toward signing with the San Antonio Spurs, according to league source.”
Leaning toward doesn’t mean it’s happening, but chances are this is for the league minimum and while Ford sort of fell out of favor in Indiana, he’s still a great option off the bench to play 15-20 minutes. If this happens, I think the Spurs have done about as well as they could have using a league minimum contract. The Spurs obviously wouldn’t ask Ford to play big time minutes and he’ll be motivated because he’s playing for a winner (and most likely for the minimum, so he’ll be looking to play well to get a pay raise). By the way, Ford is only 28 years old, not exactly over the hill.
What do you think Spurs fans? This probably means Cory Joseph heads up to Austin to play with the Toros. Everyone cool with that if it happens?
UPDATE:
According to Hoops World, Ford will sign with San Antonio this Friday for the veteran minimum.
