The San Antonio Spurs fell to the Utah Jazz on Tuesday after an uncharacteristic performance. Three days later, three days later the two teams would meet and San Antonio made up for the poor performance.
Kawhi Leonard scored 29 points as the Spurs earned a 100-86 win over the Jazz, avenging a home loss to the same team. Leonard added 11 rebounds to go along with his 29 points. LaMarcus Aldridge added 19 points for San Antonio, who began the first night of a back-to-back.
”It’s only two games,” Popovich said. ”You win some, you lose some. It’s not necessarily (that we) discovered the Holy Grail and instituted it tonight and won the game because of it. We played better.”
The Jazz were led by Rodney Hood’s 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Joe Johnson added 14 for Utah (2-3), who had their brief two-game winning streak snapped.
”I expected for them to come out and try to get off to a great start and just sustain, and they did that,” Johnson said. ”After we kind of hit first, they withstood the first five minutes and made a run of their own. We just never really got back.”
The Spurs started off slow, trailing by 10 early in the first quarter. San Antonio used a 29-25 third quarter and led by as many as 18 points.
Up next: The Spurs are now 5-1 on the season and will return to the court tomorrow when they face Blake Griffin and the Los Angeles Clippers at the AT&T Center at 7:30 p.m.
