Spurs waive Diogu, add Thomas

The San Antonio Spurs have waived forward Ike Diogu. In two games with San Antonio, Diogu averaged 1.0 points in seven minutes.

The Spurs also have announced they have officially signed former San Diego State Aztec and former teammate of Kawhi Leonard, Malcolm Thomas of the D-League’s Los Angeles D-Fenders. Through six games with the Los Angeles, Thomas is averaged 14.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game.

Waiving Diogu once again leaves the Spurs lacking big men next to Tim Duncan, DeJuan Blair, Tiago Splitter and Matt Bonner. Though Thomas will help shore up the frontcourt, he is an unproven player while Diogu at least had some NBA experience.

However, now with T.J. Ford injured (hamstring) one wonders if the Spurs will be adding a guard to backup Tony Parker should Ford be out of action for some time.
