David Lee admitted he was out of shape when coming into camp with the Boston Celtics last season. Coming into a holiday break as a member of the San Antonio Spurs, he showed the C’s what they are missing.
Lee’s performance off the bench help lift the Spurs to a 109-103 win over the Celtics inside T.D. Garden on Friday afternoon, staying perfect on the road.
Kawhi Leonard led the way for the Spurs with 25 points and 10 rebounds. Lee had 15 points and 12 rebounds and Davis Bertans also had a career-high 15 points for San Antonio, who won their eighth straight overall and improved to 9-0 on the road.
Rookie Davis Bertans scored a career-high 15 points in the win, going 7-for-8 from the field.
San Antonio struggled early, going down by 14 points in the first quarter. The Silver and Black would step it up in the second going on a 12-0 run and allowing just 16 Boston points.
The Celtics were led by Isaiah Thomas’ 24 points. Avery Bradley added 19 and Jae Crowder chipped in 15 for Boston (9-7), who had just seven free throws all game.
“You can’t take any plays off,” Bradley said of the Spurs. “They don’t take plays off….It’s almost like watching a machine.”
Up next: The Spurs are now 13-3 on the season and will return to the court tomorrow night in Washington to face John Wall and the Wizards at 6 p.m. to wrap up a three game road trip.
