Staff Predictions: Bills vs Bengals

Joe: Bills, 28-9. This is the week where the Bills defense dominates the opposition and fans are not having a heart attack by the 4th quarter. I just don’t have confidence in Andy Dalton and AJ Green. Rookies? Seriously? I know a number of experts are talking a lot about the Bengals defense being ranked in the top 8, but I don’t buy it. They have played against Cleveland, Denver, and San Francisco. Yeah, not exactly Kosar, Montana, and Elway. This is also the same defense the Bills dropped 49 points on last year. The same defense Fred Jackson rushed for over 100 yards against. The same defense Stevie Johnson had three touchdowns against. And the same defense Fitzmagic had four touchdowns against. Yes, the Bengals corners are probably the best unit the Bills have faced this year with Nate Clements and Leon Hall, but I just don’t buy them.

Brandon: Bills, 24-20.  OK, this is new for me. I haven’t picked the Bills to win all season and look what that’s gotten us — three wins. So hopefully this isn’t a jinx, but does anyone else get the gut feeling that after two huge comeback wins the Bills are going to come out in this one and lay an egg? I do. But I’m going to pick against my gut and trust my logic this time. Everything points to the Bills being able to cruise to victory but I do think it may be a bit tougher of a contest than some think. Andy Dalton isn’t Tom Brady but he has had some early success connecting with fellow rookie A.J. Green and big tight end Jermaine Gresham. We all know the Bills have secondary issues even when healthy and they’re far from 100% right now. I could see the big, physical Green and Gresham giving the Bills fits after seeing Welker and Gronkowski go off last week. But in the end, the Bengals’ D is overrated at the moment, so there’s no reason why Fitz and Co. shouldn’t have success. If the Bills lose this game, what a buzz kill it will be, but hey, I wouldn’t be surprised. I still feel as though there’s a possibility they’re just setting us up for disappointment again but for now I’ll be an optimist. Fitz makes some plays, Jackson is the MVP of the game and Dalton makes a dumb rookie mistake late to seal it for the Bills.

Mike: Bills, 34-14. Despite ranking third in yards allowed per game and sixth in points allowed per game at 18.0, I doubt the Bengals will be the first team to slow down the Bills offensive juggernaut. Those numbers were piled up against noted offensive powerhouses like Cleveland, Denver, and San Francisco.  Meanwhile, after lamentable showings (especially in the first half) against Oakland and New England, this is going to seem like a bye week in comparison for the Bills defense.

Brian: Bills, 27-13.  THe Bengals defense has done a great job against below average offenses, while the Bills offense has done a great job against below average defenses.  I think the Bills have a slight edge on both sides of the ball this week, and Andy Dalton makes a few too many mistakes to give his team a real chance to win.  If the Bills can contain AJ Green and win the line of scrimmage on defense, they shouldn’t need to be bailed out by Fitzmagic.  Does this game scare me? Absolutely, but there’s no reason the Bills SHOULDN’T win this one and that’s what good teams do.

Alex: Bills, 31-10. I think Fitzmagic will be in full effect and we’re going to see a week 1-like beat down (although not as bad). I think the Bills will have a 2 or 3 TD 1st half and the Bengals will strike in the 2nd half with two scores. However, it will be too little too late, and the Bills will put the nails in the coffin with a couple of late TDs of their own.

Shelby: Bills, 21-17. Hopefully the Bills can lead the game the entire time this week and not have to make a comeback.

Mark: Bills, 35-7. No chance for a trap game with as hard as this team has worked to get this far. The Bengals are a bad team, and our Bills are not anymore. I expect to lead 28-0 by end of third with the backups in by the 4th.

Matthew: Bills, 27-14. The Fitzbeardys only get down by 14 this week before their comeback.

Chris: Bills, 27-13. I’m on a roll baby. The Bengals are the third straight defensive line that “will give Buffalo fits” or is “sooo physical”. Well, look at what the Bills offense did against the Chiefs, Raiders and Pats. I do think the Bengals defense is an underrated group, but Fred Jackson and Ryan Fitzpatrick will be fine. I don’t trust Andy Dalton or A.J. Green just yet. Solid victory for Bills heading into a huge Eagles game.
