Who knew that this much Senators news would be available on the last Monday in May?
According to the Team 1200’s Steve Lloyd (@Steve_Lloyd), the Senators have scheduled visits to Ottawa for many of the consensus top 10 picks in this year’s draft. Next Monday, Sean Couturier, Ryan Strome and Mika Zibanejad will visit the nation’s capital while Dougie Hamilton, Jonathan Huberdeau and Gabriel Landeskog will be in town the next day. Amongst those not visiting are Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Adam Larsson and Ryan Murphy.
From this information, we can infer a few things:
1) Since Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Adam Larsson aren’t amongst the players who will visit, it doesn’t appear likely that the Senators will be trade up to in the draft. (In consequence, I suppose the Senators are assuming that Edmonton and Colorado will draft these players respectively.)
2) With the inclusion of Hamilton, the Senators will adhere to their philosophy of drafting the best player available, regardless of positional need.
3) Or, if Hamilton is selected by Ottawa, it could signify that another one of Ottawa’s heralded blueline prospects could be moved to acquire some offensive forward.

Jakob Silfverberg Signs ELC
After this morning’s announcement that Louie Caporusso has signed an entry-level contract (ELC), the Senators just announced that Swedish prospect Jakob Silfverberg has inked a 3-year ELC of his own. Drafted as one of the team’s second round picks in 2009 (Robin Lehner was the other), Silfverberg is expected to spend next season with Brynas of the Swedish Elite League (SEL) before coming over to play in North America for the 2012-13 NHL season.
