Some notes about the starting defense:
1. Tip to Shake, but it looks like Hagler has been moved up the depth chart ahead of Wheeler. No idea if that’s accurate, but it’s how the depth chart is written.
2. Oehser reports that Jennings or Powers might start and MJax will be the nickle back at least to start the season. Jackson is still recovering from an injury last year.

Colts CB Tim Jennings said Monday he didn’t yet know how he’ll be used with 2007-2008 starting CB Marlin Jackson beginning the season at nickelback as he recovers from a 2009 knee injury. Rookie CB Jerraud Powers played well in the preseason and could get the start, although the team has not announced a starter. “Wherever they need me to come in, I’ll be ready for it,” Jennings said.

He missed the preseason with a hamstring injury. “I’m ready to take it day by day,” he said. “With a hamstring, you just don’t know. I’m feeling 100 percent right now, or close to it. Come Wednesday, I want to prepare like I usually prepare – as if I’m going to play.” |

Playing nickelback will allow him to return at the proper pace, Jackson said. “My leg could be spent by the time the third or fourth quarter rolls around,” he said. “This move is being smart by the coaches, myself and the trainers.” |
Simpson is listed on the depth chart as the kick returner. Rushing is the punt returner.
