Stealing One From the Cubs

The Brewers had absolutely no business beating the Cubs.  They refused to show even the slightest bit of patience against Ted Lilly, couldn’t get any support for another great start by Yovani Gallardo, and gave up a run in each of the final two innings.  Usually, these are just the kind of games they lose.

For once, though, they managed to pull it out.  Corey Hart homered off Lilly to lead off the 8th inning for his 15th of the year (Sell!  Sell!  Sell!), and Casey McGehee once again burned the team that put him on waivers by driving in the winning two runs.  It seems like it’s been far too long since the Brewers stole one from anyone, let alone the Cubs.

It was definitely a wild last couple of innings, as the WPA graph below shows.

On a side note, the other big news of the day was day two of the draft.  I’m probably not going to make an individual post about the prospects taken today, but I did help compile player photos and links for Brewerfan.net today.  Check out their official draft pick selection thread for Patrick Ebert’s scouting reports on the guys the Brewers are taking.  I might not know a ton about the little-known Canadians Doug Melvin and Bruce Seid are taking, but he sure does.
