After Team USA had beaten Puerto Rico at Madison Square Garden, Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry spoke with the media.

Curry spoke on the state of the team, and showed that he was ready to step up as a leader for Coach Krzyzewski‘s squad.

“We’re very comfortable, but gotta still continue to grow,” Curry said. “Especially when you go overseas and bunker down as a team.”

Steph said he thinks the distractions will start to fade as they closer to the FIBA World Cup.

“There’s a lot of things going on here, in New York and Chicago,” Curry said. “Once you’re over in Spain, and understand what the mission is, our chemistry will continue to grow, it’s at a pretty good level right now.”

Coach K then cut Curry off giving him a hard time, but then he nonchalantly told Steph he’d made the team.

Steph responded, “now I know how my brother felt five years ago.”

Invigorated by his new found status, Curry talked a little more about his teammates and coaches.

“It’s an explosive look from every combination that the coac hing staff wants to put out there,” Curry said. “We have a lot of good ball handlers, a lot of good shooters, a lot of guys that can play-make and get in the paint, and create a lot of mismatches.”

He said the USA roster plans to be aggressive against opposing defenses.

“It’s a pressure situation for the defense, and it’s going hard to prepare for any team that’s watching our film trying to get a game-plan, because we have so many different looks,” Curry said.

Curry said a lot the team’s belief comes from Coach K.

“That’s the confidence that coach has put in each one of us out there, just play the game, play the way you know how and make use of your minutes,” Curry said. “With the condensed time of the game, you’ve got to go. You can’t pace yourself and you’ve got to execute while you’re in there.”

Curry can plan on being a starter for this team after that interview, but of course as always he’s got to work for it.
