Perhaps the 2014 season wasn’t a completely lost cause for SMU.
Sure, they finished an abysmal 1-11 and didn’t have any players selected in the 2015 NFL Draft, but linebacker Stephon Sanders will still get a shot to play at the next level. Sanders, a three-year starter, was signed by the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted free agent.
Congrats to Stephon Sanders on signing with the Saints! Best of luck, big guy! #SMU2NFL pic.twitter.com/MHq1ph35Yz

Sanders was one of the bright spots in an otherwise agonizing year for SMU fans in 2014, as he finished second on the team with 70 total tackles and also recorded 2.5 sacks. Now, despite having played on one of college football’s worst teams, he’ll get a chance to prove that he can play in the NFL.
