After the Rajon Rondo incident last night, everyone wondered what Stern would say about it. Well, he has spoken… at least.. he spoke about it on ESPN Radio:
“I don’t want to pre-judge on what the recommendation is going to be,” Stern said. “But as a fan, he obviously bumped him. And you know what happens with respect to that.”
There have been three instances this season where a player or coach has been suspended for a game for bumping a referee.“We have a hard and fast rule,” Stern said. “Unless somebody trips you and sends you into him, nobody touches a referee. That’s the proposition.”
Here's the thing… Stu Jackson is the guy that hands out the punishment. Now, I'm not going to be naive and say Stern isn't talking to Jackson about things, but maybe Jackson sees things differently. I'm not sure ESPN Radio is where Stern should be discussing this before judgement has been passed.
Of course, that assumes judgement has not been passed. And it's pretty clear to me that it already has in Stern's mind. I'd be shocked if Rondo avoids sitting out a game because of this.
