Taillon was widely regarded as the second best high school pitching prospect in the 2010 draft, but signing concerns let him fall to the Pirates with the second pick in the second round. He throws even a little harder than his draftmate Jameson Taillon (he could hit 100 mph as a senior in high school in Eastern Ohio), but he’s much less polished. He’s wild and his secondary pitches need work and because of that, many people are projecting him for the bullpen. The Pirates think they can turn his big arm into a starting rotation arm. The talent is certainly there and so it’s more than worth the shot. Like Taillon, though, he’s never thrown a professional pitch. And so again, here’s hoping.
