Maybe it was too close for comfort, with Bucs head coach Schiano's press conference finishing about half an hour before the show started, But in his 3PM monologue, 620 WDAE's Steve Duemig called for the end to Schiano's reign.
Mind you, this is the official radio station of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, with by far the largest radio audience of the day listening to Deumig's show. What listeners heard was the dean of radio taking issue with Schiano not regretting his preseason policy regarding more time for starters in game action.
There is no doubt a lot of that hot mess we watched Sunday falls on coaching. We saw the Redskins last night look shaky with QB RGIII having missed every game from preseason. Then you look at starting QBs going down in the practice games like Mark Sanchez for the Jets, so whose to say one is right or wrong.
But to call on your radio show that Schiano will not last the season, and to "Go back to College"…well thats just irresponsible. There was a lot of blame to go around, including Josh Freeman, whom Duemig defended more than the Head Coach.
Deumig even went as far as to recall former head coach Raheem Morris and that he was always ready on week one. Great Steve, but not week 16, the Falcons will tell you that much.
Former head coach Jon Gruden constantly and consistantly met with the ire of Deumig, and the Bucs ownership made it clear the firing of Gruden was done in part with fan feedback being taken into consideration. Having coach Schiano called for removal after his 17th game is simply over-reacting at best, and diminishes the credibility of Deumig as far as this writer is concerned.
