Steve White is a former Defensive lineman for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was the lineman who intercepted Kurt Warner on the very first play of the NFC Championship game in 1999 against the Rams. White can be followed on twitter (sgw94) and has his own website http://passingonthegame.blogspot.com/.
Steve is frequently on the King-David show on 1010, and gives his thoughts on the previous Bucs games. Among his many observations from the Lions loss…
- Too many Bucs D lineman lost containment. As a unit the D line needs to do better to stay in their gap. Frank Okam was guilty of this.
- The Lions Guards and Tackles were playing on the line too deep. He called this illegal, and Gerald McCoy commented on this yesterday. This basically neutralized any pass rush.
- Davin Joseph played well and limited Suh to his 2 tackles and 0 sacks.
- Quincy Black did not have a good day.
- The Bucs defenders missed a lot of tackles and took bad angles against the pass.
- Bowers and Clayborn did well in his opinion, but still looked like rookies. But they were encouraging.
I think we really need to throw out the rules this year because of the lock out and its effects. Unfortunately, you cant get a do-over in the NFL, but with Atlanta, New Orleans, and Carolina all losing, the Bucs pretty much get the NFL equivalent. Teams like the Steelers won’t.
