Steven Bench’s frustrating trip to State College

Penn State players are making their way to State College for the opening of summer camp, but not everybody is having a smooth travel experience. Meet Steven Bench, your Class of 2012 quarterback from Georgia.

Bench woke up this morning excited about heading to college for the first time, but he would soon find out that getting there really can be half the battle. Flight delays and mechanical issues have delayed his arrival to meet up with his new teammates.

At this point, another incoming Class of 2012 player, running back Akeel Lynch (who confirmed he is staying with Penn State yesterday)  warned Bench that he better not be too late.

The frustrations might have been getting to the young quarterback…

But wait, we’re just getting started…

At this pont, Bench is clearly getting frustrated…

While stranded, one kid asked Bench a strange question…

Then some hope?

Well, actually…

As Bench was stuck at the airport with no way of getting anywhere, he soaked in some Olympic action on TV. Men’s volleyball was on, with the Americans finding a way to go from one point from sweeping Russia to losing in five sets. Bench made an interesting observation…

Finally, back to making some progress…

I tried flying home from Greensboro, North Carolina last week but had to sit through my own delays and re-routes. Instead of flying to Newark and connecting on a short plane back to Philadelphia, I was re-routed to Chicago. Here’s hoping Bench doesn’t experience any more hassles along the way. This all sounds like a rough way to officially start a college experience.

We all hope Bench eventually arrives safely at State College, whenever that may be. We also thank him for providing updates on Twitter so we can all feel his pain along the way. After this, how tough could a practice be?
