The Cardinals are six games behind the Brewers and 4 1/2 games behind the Braves for a playoff spot. With two weeks of games left on the schedule, this makes them an awfully long shot to make the playoffs (6.2%, says Baseball Prospectus). Still, long shot is better than no shot at all. And that’s why I want to see the Pirates destroy the Cardinals this week.
Perhaps that’s petty, but I don’t really have any particularly fondness for anyone on the Cardinals and as usual, a chance to play spoiler is the best chance the Pirates have to play meaningful games in September. Also, I dislike Tony La Russa a lot.
Kyle Lohse pitches against the Pirates for like the 700th time this year tonight. Brad Lincoln will continue to try and keep his name in the running for a place in the rotation in 2012. The Pirates’ offense will try to resemble something other than the Tea Totallers. First pitch tonight is at 7:05.
