Stories We Missed, So You Missed Too

While I was loading up on family time, knowledge, booze, and tryptophan over the past few days, we missed some stories here at D4L that you undoubtedly would have been interested in.  Chances are you missed these stories completely because you get all your information from D4L and might as well live in an underground bomb shelter without it.  Who are we to withhold such vital information from your lives?

  • The biggest story, without a doubt, surrounds Tiger Woods’ one-car accident in his neighborhood at 2:24 AM on Friday morning.  The NY Daily News is reporting that his wife, Elin Nordegren, inflicted the facial lacerations and not the accident.  He was allegedly distracted by her chasing him with a golf club, causing him to crash into a fire hydrant and subsequently, a neighbor’s tree.  There was no blood found on the steering wheel or dashboard.  Just two days ago rumors started swirling that he was having an affair with some New York hostess (who denies said rumors).  911 tapes are going to be released tomorrow when Woods and/or his wife are also expected to make statements.  Woods is supposed to host a charity golf event next weekend.
  • As if it wasn’t bad enough that the Lions had just three days to enjoy their most meaningful, while still being meaningless, win in recent memory, Stafford comes back to throw four interceptions in another T-Giving blowout, a game in which the Lions also lost their promising rookie tight end to a season ending knee injury.  I’ll believe that the Lions aren’t cursed when I see Honolulu blue and silver pigs flying.
  • The Pistons lost their seventh straight on Friday night… to the Clippers.  The Clippers had lost eight in a row at the Palace, 22 of their last 26 to the Pistons and yet somehow, the Pistons found a way to lose to them.  Now, the Pistons were without Richard Hamilton, Tayshaun Prince, and Ben Gordon, but I don’t think I’m ready to allow that as a feasible excuse.  The Clippers at home is one of those must-win games.  I saw more fire out of the Fox Sports Detroit broadcast truck and even that was reportedly small.
  • The Red Wings were able to end their three game skid tonight in St. Louis.  Todd Bertuzzi netted the final shootout goal to complete the Red Wings comeback.  It’s funny how a uniform can change your opinion of a guy.  Right now, Bertuzzi is okay by me.
  • What’s going to happen with the Detroit Tigers? As December rolls around, things are going to get interesting with arbitration, free agency, and the winter meetings.  The Angels are reportedly very interested in Curtis Granderson, talks with the Mariners about Jackson have slowed, and recent talks regarding Miguel Cabrera being a potential trading block have the Red Sox potentially tempted.  I continue to just shake my head at all the hoopla surrounding these three possibly being traded, but real things are going to happen this coming month.
  • The 2009 New Jersey Nets are the 2008 Detroit Lions of the NBA, sitting proudly at 0-16. They are just one loss away from tying an NBA record for suckitude to start a season previously set by the 1988 Miami Heat and the 1999 LA Clippers.
  • Tom Izzo became MSU’s all-time leader in wins with the Spartans drubbing of UMASS on Saturday night.  Izzo’s players dumped the water cooler on him in celebratory fashion.
