2010 Bucs Lookback- Spurlock, Michael and Stovall, Maurice

Moving along in our 2010 Bucs Lookback, we are in the “S’s” and for some it means Super, for others, well, not so much. Were going to do two year today, and they couldn’t be larger contrasts between Michael Spurlock and Maurice Stovall. Actually, Spurlock was in the same boat pretty much. The Bucs will probably cut ways with Stovall, a 2006 draft pick out of Notre Dame who never really panned out.

There was always one reason or another, sometimes and injury, but Stovall would look good in Preseason and the end of seasons, but that was it. During crunch time he was never to be found. Spurlock faced a period when he was on the Bubble in the 2008 offseason. All Spurlock did was break a franchise long record for not having ever recorded a KO return for a touchdown. He does this, and still cant keep a roster spot because he could only return, he wasn’t a good enough receiver. Stovall too excels at special teams play, but nothing else, and at a time when the Bucs receivers are now a recognized commodity, that spells pink slip for the Notre Dame grad.

One of those receivers is no Spurlock, who rejoined the team after a two year absence, but he worked on his receiving and is now a capable WR. He caught the winning TD in the first game of the 2010 season, getting the Bucs off on the right foot. Spurlock was a QB in college, but played anything he could to make an NFL Roster.
