The last two days, between Lastings Milledge’s “home run” and Andy LaRoche’s baserunning foibles, have been rather embarrassing for the Bucs. What can a team do after two incidents like that in such close order? Straighten up, and try harder. That’s all anyone can do.
Tonight, Jeff Karstens goes against Jaime Garcia, who’s been excellent in the early going this season. He’s got a 3-1 record and a 1.13 ERA. That ERA is significantly better than both his FIP (2.95) and xFIP (3.72), so maybe he’ll come back to earth a bit.

Three day update! From the Charlie Morton start on Wednesday, Morton was surprisingly not the Clemente, as Garrett Jones (two-run double) and Evan Meek (scoreless seventh inning starting with a runner on base) took the honors while Ryan Doumit and Steve Pearce were the Cangelosi. In the finale against the Cubs, Jones again took down the honors with Brian Burres as the runner-up (he tied with McCutchen, but only if you subtract his hitters points, so I think it’s fair to say that the pitcher gets the tiebreaker here) and Church and Cedeno were the Cangelosis, though just barely as it’s hard to rack up negative points with such a huge early lead. Finally, in last night’s game, Andrew McCutchen gets Clemente honors with his three hits and Ryan Doumit is the runner up, while Evan Meek gets dinged for Cangelosi because he gave up the deciding run (though it was really Iwamura’s fault if anyone’s) and Garrett Jones is the runner up.
