Florida State’s 7-game losing skid at the ACC Tournament promptly came to an end on Wednesday night as the second-seeded Seminoles pounded North Carolina 7-1. Starting pitcher Billy Strode went a career-high six innings for Florida State to earn his second victory of the season.

In his six shutout innings, Strode also tied a season-high with five strikeouts. At the plate, Justin Gonzalez and John Nogowski each hit solo homers for FSU. Danny De La Calle plated a pair of runs for the Seminoles with a bases-loaded double during a 4-run fourth inning. Gonzalez finished with a pair of RBIs in the victory as well.

North Carolina got to FSU reliever Gage Smith for a run in the seventh to break the shutout. Landon Lassiter came across to score on a single off the bat of Alex Raburn.

Both the Seminoles and Tar Heels will be off on Thursday before resuming action on Friday. Florida State will take on the Maryland, the tournament’s 6-seed, while North Carolina faces third-seeded Virginia.
