Hoopsworld’s Yannis Koutroupis caught-up with Celtics forward Jared Sullinger after today’s 95-88 loss to Orlando in Summer League play. Sullinger is not participating, but is with the green in O-Town. He told Koutroupis that Boston’s doubters may be in for a surprise this year, and that “Celtic pride” is still alive and well:
“You got to understand, with you being a Celtic you have Celtic pride,” Celtics second-year power forward Jared Sullinger said to HOOPSWORLD. “With Celtic pride we don’t tank. You have to bleed green or else you might as well get out of town.”
I absolutely love this. Sullinger knows that the Celtics are going to be a much different team this year, but he sounds like a guy that is ready to face the challenge. And the “bleed green” comments? Is Sully beginning to take on the role of the team’s new emotional leader..?
Sullinger went on to say that dealing with doubt is nothing new to him, and the Celtics are ready to prove some folks wrong:
“It’s been like that my whole life,” Sullinger said. “One moment I can’t do this, I can’t do that, I’m not athletic enough, I can’t play. Now we’re going to tank a season? It’s only a matter of time before we’re going to try to put all these doubters to shame.”
