Jared Sullinger had himself another double-double performance on Friday, as Boston’s big man scored 23 points to go along with 10 rebounds in the Celts’ loss to Chicago. Sullinger also did a decent job defending the Bulls’ Pau Gasol, despite Gasol’s height and reach advantage. In 33 minutes, Gasol was 6 of 19 & had 15 points. Sully is pretty much up against taller and longer competition every night, but uses a combination of strength, sheer will & good positioning (with a lot of help from his derriere) to hold his own down low.
For the season, Sully now has averages of 16 pts & 8 rebounds per game. Jared has been working on adding a three-pointer to his arsenal, and it’s been a struggle at times. He’s currently shooting 30% (15 of 49) from beyond the arc. However if he can become a legit threat from downtown, watch out. As of right now though, it’s still a work in progress.
