The Summer League finale for the Wolves had a sweet and sour taste after Jonny Flynn earned the NBA Rookie of the Month Award just prior to the Wolves suffering a 93-85 loss to Chicago.
Flynn entered the game against the Bulls with a combined 45 points in his previous two games along with ranking third in assists per game in Summer League action. Coming off the bench, Flynn did not have the same type of impact in the defeat but managed to thrill the Vegas crowd.
As the game clock winded down in the fourth quarter, Flynn eyed the basket, took couple dribbles, and then vaulted high above the rim with a windmill dunk. Before the highlight-reel finish, Flynn drained a 3-pointer to knock the Bulls lead to 86-81 at the 1:20 mark.
“It means I’m getting acknowledged for the way I played out here,” he told Timberwolves.com. “It means a lot of people took a liking to my game. I just don’t want to be complacent. I want to keep getting better and working on my game.”
Flynn won the award despite an underwhelming performance in Sunday’s 93-85 loss to the Chicago Bulls. He scored seven points on 3 for 10 shooting. But he did record seven assists, and thrilled the crowd with a windmill dunk.
He was named the NBA Rookie of the month for his play in the summer league.
James Johnson and DeMarcus Nelson each scored 18 points to lead the Bulls, who led 43-34 at halftime. Corey Brewer scored 20 points to lead the Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves won only one of five games in Las Vegas.
