RECORD LAST WEEK: 3-5
The record works like this: If a player I recommend to start scores in the Top 10 for his position for the week, I get a win. If a player I recommend sits is outside the Top 10, I get a win. I get a loss if the reverse on either of those occur.
While Jamaal Charles and Adrian Peterson started out slowly (and unknowns like Allen Hurns exploded), remember to stay the course. You drafted your players for a reason. Do not panic just yet. You might be tempted to offload Charles for whatever you can get, especially if you lost Week 1. This would be a bad move. He is still a top running back on team that adores running the ball. The same logic applies to Peterson. Cordarrelle Patterson is a weapon to be feared, but he is not going to get the lion’s share of the carries, and Peterson still gets two games against the putrid Bears run defense.
Now for the selections:
Pittsburgh at Baltimore
Start: Antonio Brown, WR, PIT
He is coming off a big day, 15-yards for a Bruce Lee impersonation notwithstanding. The Ravens got burned last week by A.J. Green, and while Brown is not THAT good, he will do a pretty good impersonation of Green too.
Sit: Joe Flacco, QB, BAL
Do you really trust a banged-up Bernard Pierce and Justin Forsett to keep defenses honest? Flacco is in for a rough day.
Miami at Buffalo
Start: Mike Wallace, WR, MIA
Wallace had a strong outing in Week 1, and Miami’s strong running game should give Ryan Tannehill time out of play-action. Wallace is the best downfield target.
Sit: EJ Manual, QB, BUF
The Miami defense was impressive in limiting Tom Brady in Week 1. I do not see Manual doing much better.
Jacksonville at Washington
Start: Washington Defense
Toby Gerhart was a special kind of awful week one, and Washington limited Ryan Fitzpatrick last week (short of one bomb to DeAndre Hopkins). Chad Henne will have his work cut out for him.
Sit: Chad Henne, QB, JAX
See above. Washington will be able to drop seven comfortably until Gerhart proves he can move the ball. If he cannot, Jordan Todman or Denard Robinson will have to. Either way, Henne will be under pressure a lot on Sunday.
Dallas at Tennessee
Start: Tony Romo, QB, DAL
Despite Tennessee harassing Alex Smith all day long, this looks to be a bounce back game for Romo to silence his critics. He has too much at stake right now to play poorly.
Sit: Bishop Sankey, RB, TEN
Shonn Greene will get the bulk of the carries against an overmatched run defense.
Arizona at New York (N)
Start: Michael Floyd, WR, ARZ
Floyd saw a lot of work as the running mate for Larry Fitzgerald. Fitz getting the attention gives Floyd a lot of chances to exploit the Giants defense.
Sit: Rashad Jennings, RB, NYG
Jennings had a strong Week 1, but now faces a Cardinal defense that made Ryan Matthews miserable. This will not go nearly as well.
New England at Minnesota
Start: Adrian Peterson, RB, MIN
Look at what Knowshon Moreno did to the Patriots. Enough said. Peterson will have a big day.
Sit: Rob Gronkowski, TE, NE
He is still on a snap count as he recovers from a knee injury. Minnesota did a good job limiting Jared Cook against St. Louis. Gronkowski will be a star this year, but not this week.
New Orleans at Cleveland
Start: Brandin Cooks, WR, NO
Beaver Believers rejoice! Cooks had a terrific rookie debut, and should see good work in the New Orleans pass offense against a Browns defense that gave up 365 yards to Ben Roethlisberger.
Sit: Brian Hoyer, QB, CLE
Yeah, the New Orleans defense just got torched by Matt Ryan and company. But Hoyer is not Matt Ryan, and he has no Roddy White or Julio Jones.
Atlanta at Cincinnati
Start: Matt Ryan, QB, ATL
Ryan had a fantastic Week 1, and now faces a defense that was shredded through the air by Joe Flacco.
Sit: Cincinnati Defense
This will be a high scoring shootout. Both defenses are going to get thrashed. Cincy will get it worse.
Detroit at Carolina
Start: Greg Olsen, TE, CAR
Whether Derek Anderson or Cam Newton plays is irrelevant. Olsen is still the most consistent part of the Carolina offense right now.
Sit: Joique Bell, RB, DET
Both Bobby Rainey and Doug Martin were neutered by the Carolina run defense. Bell will have a rough day.
St. Louis at Tampa Bay
Start: Tampa Bay Defense
The quarterback position for the Rams right now is somewhere between “poor” and “cry deeply”.
Sit: Zac Stacy, RB, STL
With the aforementioned situation under center for the Rams, Stacy will be hard pressed to make yards with eight in the box.
Seattle at San Diego
Start: Seattle Defense
San Diego could not get anything going against Arizona, and that should not get any better against a Seattle defense that stifled Green Bay.
Sit: Ryan Matthews, RB, SD
There is a good chance San Diego will be behind for much of this game, giving Matthews limited running opportunities. He is effective in the passing game, but only so much he can do.
Kansas City at Denver
Start: Emmanuel Sanders, WR, DEN
Last week it was Julius Thomas that lit up the opponents. This time, I expect Manning will find Sanders against a reeling Kansas City defense.
Sit: Alex Smith, QB, KC
The Broncos new look defense looked good against Andrew Luck for most of the game. Alex Smith is not as good as Luck. Easy math from there.
Houston at Oakland
Start: Arian Foster, RB, HOU
Chris Ivory broke 100 yards against Oakland last week, and the Jets totaled 212 yards on the ground. Arian Foster should have a big day.
Sit: Derek Carr, QB, OAK
He had a decent first start, but J.J. Watt is playing like a man possessed right now. I would not want to be Carr at the moment.
